Optical Component Accessories

Optical component accessories are used in the design or maintenance of optical components and systems. Optical component accessories are used with lenses and mirrors, mounts, reflectors, windows, optical coatings, choppers and shutters, filters, light guides and a variety of other optical system elements.

Resolution is the most important design specification for an optical system. Resolution is determined by a system of lenses and mirrors, but may also rely on the interworking of other optical component accessories such as filters and collimators. A precision optical system relies on the careful combination of all of these components. Optical component accessories for precise optical systems include components for microscopes, telescopes, spectrometers and spectroscopes, lasers, scanners, and other precision optical instruments. Optical elements for microscopes and telescopes include viewing heads, eyepieces, mirrors, and optical coatings and can be used to customize a system for a specific application. For example, in telescope design, the types of lenses and mirrors and how they are mounted are factors in determining whether a telescope is a focal system, which is the type used to control the energy of laser beams, or a focal system, which is the type that detects and photographs light from distant objects.

Optical component accessories for laser applications include components for visible and infrared (IR) applications. An optical accessory can customize a laser to more precisely fit the application. For example, a line generator is a device that attaches to the front face of a laser and can provide laser lines or grids for precise alignment of the laser beam during medical procedures or industrial processes. Other optical component accessories for laser applications include microscope lens adapters, laser mounts, beam circularizers, and external power supplies.

Optical component accessories include products for maintaining and cleaning optical systems. Lenses, mirrors, and filters are delicate components that require careful maintenance and cleaning to ensure proper functioning. Lens cleaners are specially formulated to safely clean coated, glass, or plastic lenses. A plastic lens cleaner must be able to remove haze and scratches from plastic lenses.
